Island Bush Camp

This small, personalised camp lies under a grove of Mahogany trees on the only habitable island in the Luangwa River. Island Bush Camp offers rustic accommodation in grass/reed huts, with the modern comforts of hot showers and running water. Each stilted chalet, with open frontage has a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River. This means that you really do get up close and personal with the wildlife. Kamili's Tim & Mandy awoke to see an elephant eating leaves from the tree shown in the picturee above....now that's an awe-inspiring eye-level alarm clock.
The Island Bush Camp is just two hours drive south of Kafunta River Lodge in a very remote game-rich area of the southern section of the Park. In this complete solitude, far away from other operators, there are exclusive walking safaris on offer. And for the more adventurous, Kafunta Safaris also offer portered Safaris from Island Bush Camp. Island Bush Camp is seasonal - the entire camp is constructed each year and is open from 20th May to 31st October only.

Accommodation

Island Bush Camp is different every time you visit. Why? Because each May, the Kafunta team head down to this special area of the Luangwa and re-construct the camp piece by piece. Island Bush Camp offers a real ''close to nature' experience - quite different to the creature comforts of most of South Luangwa's accommodation.

Activities
Walking safaris are the key ingredient of life at Island Bush Camp, although with such high levels of wildlife in the area, it's just as likely that they will come walking into camp, as you finding them on a walk or game-drive! Boat trips are also a speciality, although the Kamili team say that sundowners are the ultimate experience at IBC.
