Hatari Lodge
Hatari Lodge is located in one of Africa’s most beautiful and diverse regions, at the foot of Mount Meru, an ancient dormant volcano that exploded some 300,000 years ago. From the terrace, at breakfast in the morning, if the weather is good, the guest has a view on snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest free standing mountain, which rises majestically 5,892 meters into the blue skies above. We are at the northern edge of Arusha National Park with its unspoilt views of lakes and craters and its magical rain forests growing on the slopes of Mt. Meru. Hatari Lodge is situated in a malaria free zone, at an altitude of above 1,600 meters. This “luxury bush hotel” was created by Marlies and Joerg Gabriel out of the former private buildings of the legendary actor Hardy Krueger and his friend Jim Mallory.
The oldest building serves as a large central living lounge and dining room where guests will enjoy Hatari’s delicious cuisine. Here you will find a cosy and nostalgic lounge area with a library, comfortable sofas, well-stocked bar, veranda and viewing deck. Sitting around the open fireplace, which Krüger and Mallory enjoyed so much, guests are entertained with information and stories about the flora, fauna and history of Arusha NP.
The breakfast terrace, bordered by sweet smelling acacias, as well as the viewing platform onto the Momella swamps offers impressive views of Mt. Meru, Kilimanjaro and the wildlife from close by. Here you enjoy classic sunsets over the snows of Kilimanjaro.
Accommodation
The lodge consists of three buildings beautifully situated in acacia woodland, with breathtaking views onto the Momella swamp meadow, rich with wildlife, and across to the majestic Kilimanjaro. There are 9 extremely comfortably furnished rooms, of which each has with an open fireplace and a spacious en suite bathroom. Each room has been lovingly decorated by Marlies in a retro style, evoking the 60’s and 70’s - the time of "Hatari!" and the beginning of safaris in Tanzania.

Activities
A variety of half or full-day activities can be arranged to suit the preference of each individual guest to Hatari Lodge, due to our location at Arusha National Park and near to the northern savannah and dry plains of the western Kilimanjaro area that borders Kenya’s Amboseli reserve.
The “African Experience” can be enjoyed in many different ways. Close encounters with wildlife on our game drives or the experience of the rich and diverse flora and fauna on a guided walk; An adventurous canoe trip or simply let the resident buffalo, giraffe and plenty other animals come to you as you relax on our game viewing platform.
