Etambura Camp, Orumpembe.

Etambura, Namibia's first Himba-owned camp is situated on top of a hill near the holy plains of Onjuva, normally dotted with livestock and springbok peacefully grazing side by side, in Orupembe Conservancy.
The holy plains of Onjuva are steeped in mystery. There are several different stories as to how and why these plains have been consecrated, but one thing is for sure, hunting is strictly forbidden here. Tradition has it that animals on the plain are protected by some force and that it is not possible to hunt or kill anything on these plains.
Etambura has been built for the exclusive use of Conservancy Safaris guests. It is the ideal place to relax. You might see a klipspringer or, if you are lucky, at dusk, a Jameson's rock rabbit. Tiny footprints are evidence that genets and African wildcats call this place home. The calls of a diversity of birds, the paper-whispery rustle of commiphora trees, bottle trees in bloom, the rich maroons of purple-pod terminalias dotting the hilltop and unimpeded 360 degree views make this unique spot an unforgettable highlight. Enjoy a stroll and explore the hill with its many endemic species of plants and trees.
Accommodation

Etambura has five canvas and thatch units (one of which is wheelchair friendly), each with its own private deck extending from the hill and into the beyond, conjuring illusions of "stepping into air". Enjoy the breath-taking panorama expanding before you. The rooms are comfortably furnished and provide a wonderful retreat on an eventful, action packed bush adventure with Conservancy Safaris. Each bathroom, carved either into the surrounding marble outcrops, or artfully created so as not to encroach on the endemic flora, has its own unique charm.

Accommodation

Built on a wooden platform and, in some cases, on stilts, each unit is positioned to optimize the view from this vantage point on top of a hill. Lie in bed and be dazzled by an incredible sunrise. Or, at night follow the path of the stars across a brilliant night sky. Observe the skittish rock hyraxes sunning themselves on jagged rocks, listen to the calls and discover a whole world of birds that thrive in this environment on top of the hill
Conservancy Safaris, who are the owners of Etambura Camp operate throughout the Kunene region.
