Imagine sitting back, relaxing on the Lapa with a Gin and Tonic in-hand, surrounded by the aroma of fresh focaccia cooking and the sounds of the bush. Well, you can experience just that at Konkamoya Lodge, who pride themselves on cooking mouthwatering Italian cuisine, fresh from their traditional, underground oven.

Andrea, Konkamoya’s owner, hails from Milan and his passion for wildlife and photography brought him to Zambia where he discovered the Kafue. For the ultimate safari experience with a tempting Italian twist, Andrea and Konkamoya have put tagliatelle, pizza, focaccia and tiramisu on the menu! 

Guests at Konkamoya can enjoy the feel of a traditional Italian restaurant, sat around a large table overlooking the wonderful views of Lake Itezhi Tezhi, all whilst the local populations of Elephant, Wild Dog, Pukus and Impala feast and play nearby. The lodge also collects vegetables from a local farm, and fresh bream and crayfish are caught everyday from the Kafue River. Konkamoya’s chefs, whilst also specialising in traditional Zambian cuisine too, are happy to treat guests with their favourite dishes and other special requests.  

A recent guest of Konkamoya (and Kamili's own), Izzie Ludbrook, visited Kafue on a Fam Trip in October 2017. Speaking of her time at Konkamoya, she says;

"My trip to the Kafue introduced me to a high quality of food from all camps and lodges, however it was Konkamoya’s unique Italian-infused cuisine that stood out for me. After experiencing much more ‘traditional’ safari food beforehand, (already exceeding my expectations), it was a nice change to try something different yet still authentic to the Kafue. Chilled gazpacho was served at lunch followed by a hearty crayfish linguine, using fish sourced locally from the Kafue River. Nibbles throughout the day consisted of various Italian breads and pastries fresh from their infamous underground oven; which simply bakes using coal, a corrugated metal sheet and the blazing Zambian heat."
