Fam trip : South Luangwa, September 2010
8 days, cost c.$850. Experience the Luangwa Valley – including stays at Kafunta, Island Bush Camp, Luangwa Wilderness and Croc Camp plus visit others in the area.
Whilst we can’t guarantee any specifics, we do try to visit locally competing lodges and camps, to allow you to compare and contrast.
Saturday 11th September
KAFUNTA RIVER LODGE
Arrive in LUN and depart for Mfuwe with Proflight at 08:00am. Arrive at Mfuwe and transfer to Kafunta River Lodge. Lunch. Depart for afternoon game drive visiting other lodges in the area. Dinner and overnight
Sunday 12th September
KAFUNTA RIVER LODGE
Early morning game drive, brunch and depart for Island Bush Camp (2 hours). Afternoon walking safari. Dinner and overnight
Monday 13t h September
ISLAND BUSH CAMP
Breakfast and early departure for return to Kafunta. Transfer by road from Kafunta to Luangwa Wilderness Lodge at 12:00 (approx. 4 hours). Lunch at LWL and afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight
Tuesday 14th September
LUANGWA WILDERNESS LODGE
Early morning game drive. Lunch. Visit to the local community programmes. Dinner and overnight.
Wednesday 15th September
LUANGWA WILDERNESS LODGE
Breakfast and depart for the 2 hour drive to Croc Camp for lunch. Please note that it is a 45 minute walk to the Camp. Afternoon walk. Dinner and overnight
Thursday 16th September
CROC CAMP
Breakfast. Depart from Croc Camp on foot. Pick up the vehicle and drive to Mfuwe for Proflight to LUN at 13:30, arriving at 14:40. Transfer to Pioneer Lodge. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight.
Friday 17th September
PIONEER LODGE
Early morning transfer to LUN airport for BA flight or other onward arrangements.
Kafunta River Lodge
This classical Safari Lodge offers eight private chalets which are built on raised wooden platforms under a thatched roof. The mahogany floors and walls give a natural beauty to the luxurious interiors, which are of the very highest standards. Each room has a private verandah with superb views across the waterhole.

Luangwa Wilderness
The lodge has five safari-style tents built on wooden platforms overlooking the river. Each has two beds, cupboard space, an en-suite toilet, wash-basin and hot shower. Your hosts provide all the necessities for a relaxing stay.
Island Bush Camp
Island Bush Camp is different every time you visit. Why? Because each May, the Kafunta team head down to this special area of the Luangwa and re-construct the camp piece by piece. Island Bush Camp offers a real ''close to nature' experience - quite different to the creature comforts of most of Luangwa's accommodation.
