Luangwa Wilderness Lodge

Created by the German-based NGO, Conservation & Communities Society of Cologne (CCSC), the lodge’s aim is clear - to aid the local people and to help protect the area’s wildlife. And whilst the NGO and the lodge does much, they offer the opportunity for guests to play their part too.
As well as game-viewing and relaxing at the lodge, guests can actively participate in the work being undertaken in the village whether that be by bringing simple tools with them, practical know-how (such as cooking skills, medical work or general house-husbandry) or just lending an extra pair of hands to any task. The opportunities are as varied as the huge number of projects already underway in Luambe and can be personalised. This kind of tourism is on the increase, and was pioneered by CCSC. After the game-viewing thirst has been quenched, this is a real opportunity for clients to give something back, whilst staying in a really comfortable and hospitable camp.
Luangwa Wilderness Lodge lies in the remote Zambian wilderness of the Luambe National Park. Sandwiched between North and South Luangwa National Parks, this unique slice of untouched Africa offers visitors the thrill of viewing herds of elephant and buffalo and prides of lion. It promises enchanting sightings of leopard, hippo and many other species of antelope and bird life.
Whilst it makes for a perfect stop-over between the two more well-known parks, it increasingly justifies a trip all of its own! The lodge nestles tranquilly on the banks of the Luangwa River, idyllically situated beneath large spreading Trichelia and African Ebony trees, and well off the beaten tourist track. Staying at Luangwa Wilderness Lodges also actively contributes to CCSC's programme to define Luambe National Park.

Activities

Despite being relatively small Luambe Park offers a wide diversity of mammals, birds and reptiles. Besides twice-daily game drives, LWL offers individual night drives and guided walks. Luambe is especially good for leopards, civets and servals. A visit to the local village outside the park or a local school can be arranged.
