Hippo Lodge, Kafue

Hippo Lodge is situated along the banks of the Kafue River in Kafue National Park. As such it's a perfect destination for nature lovers, bird watchers and anglers alike. Days can be spent game-viewing on foot, by vehicle or boat. Guests can fish the Kafue hot spots, tick away at that bird list, or unwind with a sundowner in their beautiful natural hot spring.
Hippo Lodge is set in a remote wilderness, teeming with seasonal wildlife - at night the sounds of lion and hyena are commonly heard.
The Zambian Ornithological Society has categorised Hippo Lodge and its surroundings as one of the best catalogued for birding in Zambia – a real bird watcher’s paradise.
A natural hot spring (shown above), situated about a kilometre from the lodge, provides guests with a perfect opportunity to unwind and rejuvenate in a unique sand bottomed Jacuzzi – bathing at the spring is one of Hippo Lodge's most popular activities.

Activities

Game viewing from the river can be spectacular, especially in the drier months, when elephants cross and animals come down to drink. For experienced or uninitiated anglers, a thrilling experience can be had with staff who willingly thread a worm, untangle knots and unhook your catch – to be served later for dinner!
