Kigelia Camp, Ruaha National Park
Set in a secluded grove of Kigelia or “Sausage Trees”, high on the banks of the Ifuguru sand river in the Ruaha National Park, Kigelia Camp is an exclusive seasonal camp offering a tailor made, private experience, giving guests a chance to step off the treadmill and connect with the soul of Africa.

This five star camp only opened in October 2008 and is surely set to be one of Tanzania's most talked about properties. It's located in the north eastern section of the Ruaha National Park, an area renowned for its wildlife numbers (and I can vouch for that - during my visit in the supposedly quiter rainy season, there were lions everywhere, along with sizeable herds of various antelopes, elephants, zebras and giraffes too!) So for game-viewing it can confidently claim to be unbeatable in the park. And, with vastly experienced guides, guests are sure to see what's on offer too.
As for exclusivity, it's right up there too. With juts 6 tents it provides a far more personal alternative to other properties in the park. With its luxurious feel -created via the camps delightful decor, layout, attentive staff and general ambience - Kigelia is the obvious choice for the safari connoisseur and also a great destination for the first time visitor to Africa. But don't think this detracts in any way from the wilderness experience...far from it. Kigelia's owners are committed to providing a high quality, traditional style safari, where getting close to nature is a must.
The camp is located on the Ifuguru Sand River, close to the confluence of the Mwagusi River and the Greater Ruaha River. Kigelia Camp is accessed by chartered light aircraft or by regular commercial flights to Msembe Airstrip from either Dar es Salaam or Arusha.

Accommodation
Kigelia camp offers six large double tents and can be booked individually or exclusively by parties of eight or more. To minimise the environmental impact of the camp, they use solar power wherever possible. Each tent has comfortable, locally crafted beds and its own en suite bathroom with flushing toilet and open air bucket shower for that true camping experience. There is nothing better than to stand under a steaming hot open air shower at the end of a long day’s game drive!

Activities
The Ruaha National Park boasts a spectacular array of animals and birds, so activities during the day are varied to include game viewing not only by vehicle in fully adapted 4x4 safari vehicles but also on foot. At all times our guests are accompanied by expert guides. Guests are invited to design their own programme of activities in consultation with the guides to maximise the quality and pace of the experience according to guests own particular interests and desires.
