Mopane Bush Lodge

Mopane Bush Lodge is located on Mapesu Nature Reserve,
a safe environment to go walking, cycling, birding, game viewing and bush driving or just get up close and personal with nature! We are recent visitors to the lodge and found it realxing, charming and full of things to do!

From here its easy to get to Mapungubwe National Park - the much talked about new National Park with awesome views of the Limpopo River, dramatic scenery and spectacular sandstone cliffs. Wildlife there includes elephants, rhino and leopard, as well as providing good birding. And there's also a unique opportunity to track the endangered African wild dog, accompanied by a researcher - giving guests a great chance view these fascinating animals in the wild. This activity must be booked well in advance, but sightings are al but guaranteed.

But Mopane really excells in the opportunity to enjoy a wider bush and nature experience - guests can try birding in one of South Africa’s best birding areas; go walking or cycling the Baobabwe Peace Trail or even restore the soul with the splendour and majesty of the Messina Baobab Nature Reserve - home to hundreds of large baobab.

Limpopo on the go

Mopane will appeal most when combined with some of the game lodges in and around the area. With this in mind, you may want to consider Kamili's recommended 'Limpopo on the Go' route.

Starting in Johannesburg, guests can take the SAA scheduled flights to Polokwane (circa £100pp return). Here, its straight forward to hire vehicles from any of the major carhire brands - a saloon will suffice, but a 4x4 makes it feel more adventurous!

Heading out of Polokwane is straight forward and the roads are well sign posted. This has been idiot tested by Kamili's very own Tim Henshall! Mopane is a must (and very easy to find) and should be combined with either Lesheba or Mogalakwena Lodge in South Africa. Then for real excitement, guests should be encouraged to take one of the border crossings over the Limpopo River into Botswana - to stay at Tuli Safari Lodge and or Nitani Lodge.

Please note, Kamili does not represent Le Sheba, Mogalakwena, Tuli or Nitani.
