This beautiful and picturesque country has long been attracting interest from pony trekkers, hikers and scenery lovers, but until now, no high quality accommodation has been available to host these travellers within the country's border. But all that has now changed with the opening of Maliba Mountain Lodge. Maliba Mountain Lodge, pronounced ‘Madiba’ in Sotho, is the first 5-star lodge in Lesotho. It is located within the Tsehlanyane National Park, in a pristine sub-alpine wilderness valley deep in the heart of Lesotho’s impressive mountains. This is a protected area, with over 5600 hectares of very rugged wilderness mountain terrain, Maliba will soon boast the highest sub-alpine botanical garden in the world, designed by world-renowned South African botanist Elisa Pooley.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Maliba Mountain Lodge

Guests are accommodated in one of six private and luxurious Basotho-style chalets. Each chalet is over 80m2 and is tastefully decorated with natural earthy tones. The crackling open fireplace in each chalet sets a romantic mood. Each chalet has a sunken bath with panoramic views of the mountains, a king size bed, mood lighting and private viewing decks to create a sophisticated ambience.

Maliba Lodge offers guests a range of activities including hiking on one of the three nature trails, horse riding on local Lesotho ponies, swimming in natural springs, bird watching, and rock-climbing Lesotho is a country that thrives on tradition, so cultural activites offer an interesting alternative. The area offers much for enthusiasts of geology, botany, birdlife and nature in general.
