Pangolin Photo Safaris

Any safari or wildlife enthusiast appreciates the skill of being able to take a great photograph. Now they can do something about it, with Pangolin Photo Safaris -  an exciting new venture designed to equip photographers of all levels with the skills and equipment they need to capture that flawless and seemingly elusive shot.

Great wildlife photography is a highly skilful business, that requires endless patience and is often the result of being in the right place, at the right moment, with the right camera and maybe a little luck.

On the water, Pangolin operates a boat specifically adapted for wildlife photography.  Onboard, cameras are custom mounted and attached to seats that rotate a full 360 degrees. The boat is a full 2.5m wide inside which allows for maximum kit storage space and accessibility while on the river. In order not to disturb animals a rotational bass motor has been fitted to allow silent approaches to the animals in and around the Chobe River.

Offering photography enthusiasts tailor-made courses to suit their individual requirements, courses can either be incorporated into an existing visit to the region, or be booked separately as a more comprehensive safari spending time in the bush and on the river capturing amazing wildlife moments.

Toby Jermyn : Toby was born in London and has lived in South Africa for nearly 15 years. Having studied zoology at university in the UK he spent the next decade working in the telecommunications and internet industry. The call of the wild was however too strong and a year long sabbatical overland safari from Cape town to Kenya in his (un)trustworthy Land Rover “Friday” only confirmed his desire to work in the great outdoors rather than return to the office. A qualified field guide and very enthusiastic amateur photographer Toby runs the sales and marketing from Cape Town but reports for guiding duty as often as he can. toby@pangolinphoto.com

Gerhard "Guts" Swanepoel : Guts has been running guided photo safaris around Southern Africa since 2002 and in that time has managed to cover a staggering 1.2 million kilometers in his incredibly trustworthy Land Rover "Gutsy". That experience combined with a degree in Adventure Tourism and a stint in the South African army's elite photo reconnaissance unit has positioned Guts as one of the most sought after guides of his generation. Guts is based in Kasane in the Chobe region on a permanent basis and is responsible for all operations and guiding activities. His boundless enthusiasm for the African bush and his easygoing teaching style mean that our guests return time and time again. guts@pangolinphoto.com
